Stained Glass Domes and Ceilings

16 foot diameter dome on Saddlebrook

Stained Glass Domes  and Stained Glass ceilings are comprised of  two elements in essence: a steel frame that is configured into divisions or sections, and of course the beautiful stained glass panels. The glass panels are curved to give a true domed shape that is more pleasing to the eye and senses. These are magnificent architectural art glass elements that will draw you in once discovered in a room. This is a truly hand made curved frame, and the glass panels are built on a radius. Unlike the kit domes that are segmented in straight sections that appear to be built on a curve. We can design and fabricate any size or radius art glass dome.

The steel frame structure is built on a radius and hand welded together. It is a light in weight, but very strong. The stained glass panels can installed from the top side or from below on scaffolding. The frame is divided into 2 main sections, so that it can go up into the opening without any problems.

Shown above is the installation process of a 12' diameter dome with a 3' rise, constructed in steel. This configuration is quite difficult to execute , reminiscent of old world craftsmanship and qualities.

Founder Joe H. Wells and his brother Robert working on the first stained glass dome by Art Glass, back in the early days.  The dome was constructed to fit on top of a private railroad car of Houstonian Judge Roy Hofheinz.  Structurally the dome was built to withstand the jolting of the railroad car.  Judge Roy Hofheinz was the builder of the first sports domed stadium in the world, the Astrodome.
